HowTo: Get Gnome 3 to work in a more conventional way with dual displays
Normally when you use multiple displays in Linux both displays make up a complete workspace. However, the default behaviour in Gnome 3 is to only have the primary display change when you switch workspaces. I can see some advantages to doing it this way. Although, this is not the way I usually work so I reverted to the normal method.
To do this you need to install 'gconf-editor'. Open it and go to:
Desktop -> Gnome -> Shell -> Windows
Then uncheck the box named workspaces_only_on_primary.
You'll need to log out for the setting to take effect.
